This week we have concluded one part of Chapter 7 on the format of the current Government, branches,roles and responsibilities. Foldables on the responsibilities of each level of Government have been completed, corrected and returned.

We also continued to role play the Representative Government model. Queen Grace appointed her Governors, who then appointed Legislative and Executive Councils. The small number of voters who remained did not always meet voting qualifications- this activity was followed up with a written flow chart(which is in Google Classroom)

Students are asked to think of things that represent them as a symbol for a coat of arms. On Tuesday we will start the Learning blocks for the second part of the chapter

This was a busy week in Socials: The focus was the House of Commons, The Governor General and the Senate.
The Our Country, Our Parliament booklet resource was used in every session along with the Q and A booklet. There were three Videos shared ( in Google Classroom) along with a Photo share of each of the House of Commons( Center Block and new West Block),The Senate and Rideau Hall Governor General.

All Assignments and activities have been passed back- People of BNA, Chapter Test, Acadian People Case Study, and the Three Levels of Government is waiting to be passed back as I have three students who have not submitted.
This will go back on Monday.

Keep thinking about your personal coat of arms and what symbols represent you? This activity will take place this week coming.

Just a few week end notes:
The Chapter Tests were passed back today. The marks have been in Power School for two weeks. Also passed back are the Acadian Case Study, Marks are in Power School. On Tuesday, I will pass back the carousel activity. Marks will be released on Power School either today or Monday. Sorry for the delay on the return, there were 5 students delayed in submitting work.

Moving forward:
Chapter 6/7 on Canadian Democracy and the growing of a Nation has started. We have completed our terms to know

Completed parts and sections in Our Country, our Parliament booklet. Thursday and Friday we have spent learning and creating a foldable on the responsibilities of the three levels of Government. The assignment is in google classroom and is due on Tuesday (March 3) students absent today will have to complete any remaining work on Tuesday evening and submit it on Wednesday.

The Socials test was completed on Thursday. The students absent completed their test on Friday.
To conclude Chapter 5 we did the Louisa Collins Diary Entries and watched the trailers for tow movies based in this time period: Harriott and Little Women. Both movies are set in the 1800's and focus on Life, times, hardships and incredible strength Immigrants and women had to endure during this time in history.
The Chapter 5 booklet is due in NO LATER THAN TUESDAY FEBRUARY 18. Several are completed, looking forward to reading all of the booklets.

Chapter 6 starts Tuesday.

This Week the booklets were completed, passed in and will be returned on Monday Feb.3 Also completed was the chapter 5 case study. This was a reading comprehension study on the Acadian People. This is an assessment and was completed on Friday.
Passed out on Friday was a terms to know sheet for the Quiz that will take place on Feb 12, Day 5 period 4. Lots of time to review and learn the terms and booklet.

Today we went through the chapter 5 booklet and made certain all questions from 1-32 were completed and correct. We then read through the final section and answered questions 33-40. Tomorrow during period 5 we will finish 41-43 and the Journal activity. This will complete the booklet and they will need to be passed in for correcting and returned on Monday.

Google classroom has been updated with some necessary information to keep you organized and successful.
We will have a class quiz on the booklet on February 12. Review sheet in google classroom and will be passed out in class. As well, we will do a Kaoot to help review two days before the quiz.

Tuesday - Day 3 No class

Wednesday- Started Chapter 4 with an in class full group hands on activity of ' Chat it Up' Four Visuals, all with different people, places, objects etc- as a group questions help prompt the 'Chat it Up'on the Visual attached! Super fun... lots of learning and end questions sparked new questions to answer.

Thursday- We classified each of these Visuals into Job sectors, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Quaternary... and Quinary- Looked at how 3D Printing has new capabilities in this job sector.Fantastic discussion

Friday- 8:15-8:35 class Study and review session for test.... 8:35- Class group Q& A on the test terms to know
8:50- Showed the opening of Rick Mercer Farming in Camrose Alberta. Will continue on Tuesday.

Monday: Section of focus was on Personal Capital/Buying a House/Poverty Cycle/Breaking the Poverty Cycle. Today we discussed DownPayment, Motgage, Interest... we went into the Remax website and 'bought' a house. The class decided they wanted a 3 Bedroom/2 Bathroom home in CBS/Paradise area. They agreed upon a purchase price of $399 900. and learned that with a $40 000.00 Downpayment, the remainder Mortgage would be $359 900 at an interest rate of 3.59% they would pay 1349.00 Monthly. An excellent hands on realization of the investment into purchasing a home/property.

Tuesday: Continued with home purchase and completed questions 22,23,24,25,26,27 in the booklet

Wednesday: No Classes

Thursday: Introduced breaking the poverty Cycle- Habitat for Humanity and watched three small videos ( in google classroom ) on Habitats work.

Early Bird assignments ( Paper copy) are due today- Digital copies due by email tomorrow. All other assignment are due on Wednesday Nov 13. (Was Nov 12 before the PD Day was announced.)

Thursday: Finished the Human Rights videos and introduced Chapter 2- Economic Security. A Needs and Wants in class activity kick started the class by imagining what the Needs and Wants of a person living in NL on December 20, 1845 would be.... Fantastic discussion and conversations shared!

Friday:Needs and Wants for December 20, 2019 with a new partner- Comparisons made between the 174 year difference. Introduction made to the chapter on the Economic Security of the first settlers and the Aboriginal people of the land.
Pre-Industrial, Industrial and Post Industrial Economies will start us off on Tuesday. (No class Monday)

Monday- No Socials
Tuesday- Completed questions on Societal and National Empowerment in the booklet
and started the brochure ( two classes- due on Friday)
Wednesday- Brochure class time
Thursday- No scheduled class today with the new class schedule changes
Friday-Reviewed the topics to focus on for the chapter quiz on Tuesday. Suggested a good weekend review so we can play a review game on Monday to prepare for the Tuesday Quiz.
Continued with Dis Empowerment and introduced the Home Children (not on the socials quiz)

REMINDERS:
There are three brochures that need to be passed in on Monday. The other brochures will be graded and returned on Monday. These will be an excellent study help along with your class booklet.

Today we worked on the in class assignment brochure on Empowerment and Authority. This is the second day to work on this activity. No further class time will be given all assignments are due no later than Friday, September 27.

Today we had a shortened class due to the extended homeroom and the Grade 7 Meeting with Mr. Lambe. Upon our return, we completed National Empowerment and the questions in the workbook. This now means we have the booklet completed question 1-29. If you have missed any Socials classes, you need to have these questions completed.

Period 5 we had an extra Music class, so I took this class to make up for the lost Socials class on Day 7. We watched Greta Thunberg's presentation on Global Climate and used the follow up questions, How is she personally Empowered, How was her speech Politically Empowered, Socially Empowered and Nationally Empowering?
Excellent Discussion.
Followed with our in class assignment which will also double as a study guide for the quiz now scheduled for Tuesday.

4)On Monday, I will share the format and we will review the five types of empowerment with an in class activity, which I will grade and give credit for your work.

First class today! While it was warm and a little humid, I think this is going to be a great year for socials.
Students will need a RED binder and some loose leaf or an exercise. Handouts and activities will be three hole punched for ease of storage and organization.
Please bring your binder and textbook to each class period.
